Thank you to all who answered the question. I have a better feel for the more scholarly translations that are popular.

1st one we did not attend in 25 years. Did not feel one bit guilty or awkward, enjoyed the evening at home - "V", Anderson Cooper and off to bed... as I laid there the full moon looked so much different this year....happier.

Brand New: Currently Totally Devastated
by daringhart13 ini'm brand new to the board.
long time, "big shot" elder, ....taught at km school, conventions, etc.
yeah, i know it means nothing....but it gives you an idea of how deep i've been a jw.. i don't even really know what to write at this point.

DaringHeart: I have empathy for you - 18 months ago I stood where you were. Tonight is the 1st Memorial that my wife and I will not attend. I have enjoyed the solace from some very caring people on this board and it has helped me immensely. Don't be afraid to come back and speak your mind, unlike what we were both taught at Elders Schools - the mainstays of this board are open minded and are well versed and eductaed on matters.
Hang in there, it does get easier...

A Newbie I am: I was promised a "spiritual paradise" - no opressive wolves, no poisonous snakes - spiritually speaking, lets recap a few of the more memorable moments in this Spiritual Paradise:
- Very early had to deal with jealous R&F over the job I had and came into as a JW
- Daughter had to befriend her congregation friends who were living a double life, jealous, quick to tattle and mean - she had to give up friends that were genuine friends
- When my daughter faced death (refusing blood) and had to stay at home, in bed for a year she was asked "what could she do for field service
- During a serious family illness a CO politicked the body to have me removed because I was not handling illness properly
- Had an elder interfere in family matters, job matters, etc - right up to my recent fade - wondered if he would give his life for me?
- Constant calls over what I did say or did not say - whose hand I missed and whose I favoured
- Passive rebellion by having some R&F keep their head down during my parts
- Having to deal on Appeals with obvious dislike for a person
- Stupid Rules
- Jealusy, gossip and slander -but be the bigger person and forgive them. Nothing about dealing with the gosspi and slander.
- CO's who took a dislike to you because you pointed out their position was not scriptually based
- Seek and destroy investigation and JC's
- Attacks on family for not being in the school or pioneering
- Finding out that a family member who no longer is attending meetings was sexually abused by "someone" in the bathroom at the KH
- A sister recieves greater punishment for immorality than her drunken beer drinking, violent video game seeking, out with the boys husband because there were no two witnesses to any of his actions
- Lack of care - in two months since full fade - 1 call from a great R&F brother....so much for leaving the 99 and seeking the 1.
Whre is this promised spiritual paradise of his?
I do not miss one moment of this. I appreciate the honest and kind words recieved here and through PM's

by Simon Morley inas this will be the 1st year of my not attending the memorial my wife (who feels the same) and i had a discussion this morning that i thought i would post to see (as i am relatively new to the group) what you all feel.
our discussion was about jesus' command to "keep doing this in rembrance of me".

As this will be the 1st year of my not attending the memorial my wife (who feels the same) and I had a discussion this morning that I thought I would post to see (as I am relatively new to the group) what you all feel. Our discussion was about Jesus' command to "keep doing this in rembrance of me". What would Jesus want us to do if we do not go? What educated research has been done on the matter?
We do not believe that doing it every day as per the RC's is right, but how have some of you interpreted this. If there has been past post then a link would be helpful. There is some connectiveness to the Passover that seems to be a more family aven that a collective gathering. Ther again, maybe this is just another instance of JW embed on the subject that is hard to reconcile. Thank you in advance.

Why do some of you JW's stay in the organization?
by dgp ini have read that up to 67% of all jw's leave the religion when they come of age.
so i wish i could know why the others stay.
in your opinion, what keeps them in?
-
Simon Morley
EX: I was hoping you would actually answer the question that was posed: "Why do some of you JW's stay in the organization?" rather than a borderline ad hominem attack. Please, many of us are actaully interested why you would stay in - "born-in" pressures, "true hope" ????
